Coding & Robotics is now a compulsory subject in South African schools and forms an important part of preparing learners for the future. Introducing Coding & Robotics in the Foundation Phase helps learners develop problem-solving, logical thinking, creativity, and computational thinking skills from an early age.

Coding teaches learners how to break problems into smaller steps and find logical solutions. Learners begin to understand sequencing, instructions, patterns, and cause-and-effect relationships. These are valuable skills that support learning across all subjects.
Coding & Robotics also supports Mathematics through patterns, sequencing, measurement, and direction. In Literacy, learners develop comprehension and instruction-writing skills, while Life Skills activities encourage collaboration, resilience, and critical thinking.
While the subject is exciting and valuable, many teachers feel overwhelmed or unsure about how to teach it. This is understandable, especially for teachers who have not received formal Coding & Robotics training before. Supporting teachers with practical training and classroom-ready resources is essential for successful implementation in schools.
At Club Electron, we have developed a CAPS-aligned, SACE-accredited Coding & Robotics course specifically for Foundation Phase teachers. The course is designed to be practical, simple, and accessible, even for teachers with no prior coding experience.
